Armed raiders knifed two men after taking them hostage in their own home.
The pair were stabbed by crooks who burst into their home in Mersea Road, Colchester, in the early hours of yesterday.
A 34-year-old man was in hospital today after surgery to a stab wound to the abdomen.
A 71-year-old man suffered superficial injuries in the attack. A 50-year-old woman in the house at the time of the raid was unharmed.
Detectives said the knife-wielding burglars broke into the home demanding a specific item, but fled empty-handed.
The ordeal happened between 1.30am and 2.30am and officers are appealing for witnesses
