Acres of open space and green belt land could be covered in homes if developers and landowners have their way.
Proposed developments in Clacton include building on playing fields in Gainsford Avenue, and housing developments on holiday park land in Holland Road and green gap land in Constable Avenue.
Other plans include housing developments at the Nico factory site in Oxford Road and Dalau factory site in Ford Road.
Tendring Council planning officer Gary Guiver said: "It is fair to say that developers and landowners are trying to develop almost every edge of the Clacton urban area.
"But not every proposal will go ahead."
The new proposals have been submitted for the Tendring District Local Plan, a guide to development in the district until 2011.
