Colchester's international athlete Sarah Claxton believes the lack of a major sponsor could cost her and the country a medal in future high profile games.

The 26-year-old Great Britain hurdler, who specialises in 60-metre events indoors and 100-metre distance outdoors, is agonisingly only one-tenth-of-a-second off the medal pace.

And Claxton, whose family home is on the Monkwick Estate, said: "The extra training major sponsorship would allow me to do could prove the difference between me winning a medal, or not."

Should a sponsor come forward, Claxton's theory could be quickly put to the test.

She said: "I've got three major championships coming up and I believe I have a great chance of medalling in these."
