A teenager has been banned from going near a school after he repeatedly fired a BB gun into the playground, hitting two pupils in the face.

A girl was left with swelling on the temple, just 3cm away from her left eye, and a boy suffered bruising to his forehead, Harwich Youth Court heard yesterday.

Glenn Haggett, 17, had his Anti-social Behaviour Order (Asbo) amended after he admitted three charges of breaching the order, arising out of the incident at Thurstable School, Tiptree, on January 26 and a separate incident on January 12.

Haggett admitted three offences of breaching an Asbo, imposed in March 2005.

He was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order and a three-month curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am. He must pay £100 in compensation.

His Asbo was amended to ban him from going within 50m of Thurstable School between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Roger Brice, mitigating, said that there had been "an undoubted change" in Haggett, who has started work as a builder.

"He now understands what is necessary to make his life better," Mr Brice said. "People who have not been sympathetic to him in the past say he is buckling down now."
