POETS James Armstrong and Geraldine Aldridge encouraged children to let their imaginations run wild as they used puppets and costumes to inspire verse.
Youngsters at Edward Francis Infants School, in Rayleigh, dressed as fairies, butterflies and ladybirds after the poets read several poems to fire up the youngsters' creativity.
Deputy headteacher Eileen Hickey said: "They loved it and so did the staff. "It was one of our events leading up to world book day as part of a drive for creativity in the classroom.
"We will probably do more of these sort of things. It's a fun way for the children to learn."
