A firework was thrown through the open window of a car in a drive-by attack.
The front seat passenger of the vehicle sustained very "nasty" hand injuries following last night's ambush.
It was carried out at the Clingoe Hill traffic lights on the A133 heading toward Wivenhoe at 9.50pm.
Three male teenagers sat in the Peugeot car waiting for the lights to change when a dark-coloured VW car pulled up alongside them.
An object, thought to be a firework, was then thrown through the passenger window and then the VW made its escape.
