An Essex Boatyard is up for an award as best family run business in the country.

Essex Boatyards of Wallasea island has been nominated for the award in a competition to find the overall best run family business in England and Wales.

The awards are organised by international private banking firm Coutts who are part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

Essex Boatyards is one of six nominees in a category for medium sized businesses with a turnover between £5 and £50 million.

Commenting on the nomination, joint managing director James Barke said: "We are all very pleased and proud to have received a nomination for these prestigious Coutts awards. We are looking forward to the ceremony with some anticipation and to have even got this far is great recognition of the achievements of Essex Boatyards over the past twelve months."

To progress in the competition Essex Boatyards has to win through the regional awards stage which is set for March 8.
