CHILDREN being cared for at Little Havens Hospice, Thundersley, are to benefit from a special chair donated in memory of a teenager.

The multi-adjustable armchair provides support for children where they need it and was delivered to the hospice by Gary and Sharon Defty, from Eastwood.

Their son Dean, who was 18, died in September after being diagnosed with encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain.

Dean spent his final weeks at the hospice, so his parents decided to raise money to buy a smaller version of a special chair he used.

The £1,600 needed to purchase the chair was donated at Dean's funeral, and money is also being raised for an airflow mattress to help prevent patients from getting bedsores.

Louise Warren, head of care at Little Havens said: "We are so grateful to Dean's family and friends for this vital piece of equipment. The chair has already been used by many of our younger children, which helps them move around the hospice and even go outdoors."
