Horrified parents today told how their baby daughter was twice given the same immunising jab, following a medical mix-up.

Double ordeal - Laura Cuppelditch with her seven-month-old daughter Demi Feaviour and partner David Feaviour. They are holding her medical record book and a letter which led to the baby getting a second set of jabs by mistake. Picture: NICK OBANK (47926-2)

Colchester mum Laura Cuppelditch was ordered in a letter to bring in seven-month-old Demi for a set of shots to protect her against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio and meningitis.

Nurses administered the five-in-one injection at Castle Gardens Medical Centre in East Hill yesterday - but then realised they had made a mistake.

Demi's medical record book clearly showed she had already received the jab, the last of three scheduled inoculations, three months ago.

Colchester Primary Care Trust (PCT) said today the double dose would pose no risk to Demi's health.

But Mrs Cuppelditch, 22, of Greenstead Road, said she was amazed the error had been allowed to happen.

"They were asking why I didn't spot she had already been given the shots," she said. "But Demi is my first child and, when you get an official letter from the doctor, you do what you are told."
