PLANS for a new Tesco Express store in Benfleet have finally overcome their last hurdle.
Castle Point Council gave the company permission to convert the Q8 garage and New Classic Car Centre, in London Road, after hearing the company was willing to install some road safety measures.
The application has stalled for some time as councillors demanded that Tesco worked with Essex County Council to iron out the highway issues.
The council was concerned the development would overburden an already busy junction and asked for a number of safety measures to be installed.
After an initial refusal, the company has now agreed to slightly widen the road to allow large lorries to turn in and has agreed to look at putting in electric signals at a pedestrian crossing.
