An urgent call is being made for the official decision on Harwich's Bathside Bay development to be made.

It comes after the Government's go-ahead for a new container terminal at Felixstowe was announced last week.

The new facility will be able to handle the very largest container ships, which previously had to dock on the continent, with freight being loaded on to smaller vessels to reach the UK.

It will lead to improved road and rail connections as well as paving the way for a predicted 1,500 new jobs.

The announcement coincided with the expiry of the statutory six-week consultation period on Bathside Bay.

Once complete, Bathside Bay would consist of 1,400m of continuous quay for the largest deep-sea vessels.
