PARENTS fear their children's lives could be in danger as a result of plans to cut a dozen crossing patrols near Southend schools.

Up to 12 school lollipop men and women could be made redundant and another 11 vacancies left unfilled to save Southend Council £90,000.

Amanda Thompson said she was alarmed at the news that Porters Grange School, in Southchurch Avenue - which her eight-year-old daughter, Savannah, attends - was to lose two patrols. She said: "It is going to leave children with nobody to see them across a main road. If they take them away, our kids' lives will be in jeopardy."
