Oyster suppliers are having their products tested following concerns of a virus.
A number of people across the country are believed to have fallen ill with the winter vomiting virus after eating the prized mollusc.
Colchester Council was asked by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to take samples of the oysters from two Mersea-based suppliers.
Both the Colchester Native and the Pacific Gigas oysters are being tested, and stocks come from Mersea, Denmark and the River Roach in the south of the county.
Most of the samples, which have been tested by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), have come back clean although one batch of untreated oysters will need filtering before sale.
The FSA is getting further tests carried out on two remaining samples from CEFAS before deciding whether further action is needed.
