A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after the homes of two police officers were firebombed.

Chelmsford Magistrates' Court ordered Angelo DeBono, of Windermere Court, Clacton, to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on February 14.

He is charged with two counts of attempted murder following firebomb attacks on the homes of serving CID officers in Holland Road, Clacton, and Frinton Road, Holland-on-Sea on Saturday, January 28.

He is also charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

DeBono was yesterday jailed for four months after admitting driving whilst disqualified and being over the legal alcohol limit.

Chris McCann, prosecuting, said DeBono, 30, was seen driving a BMW down Marine Parade in Clacton on Thursday at just after midnight and a low-speed chase followed along Connaught Gardens.

He was arrested and at Clacton police station a reading of 65mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath was recorded. The legal limit is 35.

David Davies, mitigating, said: "He had just been to a funeral parlour to see a good friend who died last week and he became upset."

A 21-year-old Clacton man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder was today still being questioned by police.
