Let's go for it! Colchester United midfield general Kevin Watson says he and his U's team-mates can go on to eclipse the club's all-time 12-match winning record.

That milestone was set way back in the 1938-39 season, when, as a thriving Southern League club, the U's clocked up a magnificent, high scoring, 38-goal dozen.

Victory over Coca-Cola League One rivals Scunthorpe United at Layer Road tonight will take the U's current winning streak to ten matches.

And having set a new record of nine successive wins since becoming a Football League club with last Saturday's 3-1 triumph over Bradford City, Watson told the Evening Gazette: "We've come this far and I see no reason why we can't take our run even further.

"But we don't talk about records, only the particular game that is confronting us.

"As players of course we want to be involved in setting new records. Winning means you're being successful.

"Nineteen wins in 21 matches is phenomenal and if we don't break this latest record it won't be for the want of trying."
