SOPHIE Drake and Alyson Moran both won gold as Canvey Island Swimming Club got off to a great start in the Essex Championships.
Drake, 13, won the 50m backstroke at Blackshots Pool, Thurrock after a thrilling final which saw her take two seconds off her personal best as she overhauled her rivals in the closing stages. She also took seventh in the freestyle.
Moran, 17, won the breast-stroke to defend last year's title, again coming through a close finish after qualifying down the field.
