Tony Thorpe cannot wait to pull on a Colchester United shirt for the first time.
And the much-travelled 31-year-old goal-machine - 162 in 425 League and cup appearances for his previous nine clubs - is hoping that first time could be against one of his former clubs, Bristol City, at Layer Road tonight.
"I'd love to get the nod, if only on the subs bench," Thorpe - worth nearly £2m in transfer deals during his 14-year Football League career - told the Evening Gazette.
He said: "I left Bristol under a bit of a cloud after spending four years at Ashton Gate and the City fans have been giving me a bit of aggro ever since.
"I'd love the chance to play against them again tonight and it would be the perfect scenario if I was to step off the subs' bench and score the winning goal."
