Helen Chapman, who now has an artificial foot, is hoping to raise nearly £200 for a national children's charity.
"I do a lot of swimming and take part in aqua aerobics but it's the first time I've done this," said Helen, of Saville Street, Walton.
Helen, who is 38 today, is aiming to complete a mile. The mother-of-two lost her foot as a child just above the ankle when it failed to reset.
The swimathon is at Walton pool on March 26. Anyone who would like to sponsor Helen can contact her at 01255 670947 or contact the pool.
