A station on the train line to London has been identified as in need of improvement.
Dominic Booth, One Rail's acting managing director, said Marks Tey needed additions such as new shelters.
He was speaking at an open forum for commuters, where one couple from Marks Tey said the station was in a poor condition.
He agreed, but warned any improvements might have to wait until extra cash was available.
He said: "I think we should very much have a look at Marks Tey - we would dearly like to have more money to spend on upgrading facilities.
"It is back to the issue of funding. Shelters on the line are not springing up fast enough."
Mr Booth added a lot of investment went into stations near London and he hoped it would happen in north Essex.
