A DEMAND for information on the cause of the Southend Pier fire was today made by council leader Anna Waite.
She wants the results of an investigation into last October's blaze made public to put an end to rumours.
Mrs Waite said she had heard suggestions faulty wiring was responsible for the fire. Other rumours pointed to arson, despite police denials.
Among unanswered questions is why a new fire-fighting system installed on the pier only a few years ago failed to operate satisfactorily.
Mrs Waite said: "The council and the people of the town have waited long enough to get some idea of what happened that night."
