Tiptree-based Ali Carter is heading into the China Open qualifying in bouyant mood after securing his place in another overseas event, the Malta Cup.
The world number 16 beat Marcus Campbell 5-3 in the qualifyer in Prestatyn to book his trip to the Mediterranean island.
"It was great to get my first win under my belt," said Carter.
"Since I was elevated to the top 16 I do not have to qualify for every competition so it means you don't have as many competitive matches.
"My first game of the season was in the Grand Prix, and I was knocked out in the first round 5-3 after a very tough challenge from Joe Swail."
Carter, though, now has that winning feeling under his belt again and heads into Friday's China Open qualifying match in great shape.
