Police are appealing for witnesses following two purse thefts in Maldon High Street.
The first theft happened in Card Fair on Friday. A woman from Great Totham was shopping in the store but was "jostled" by someone.
A few minutes later she realised her bag had been opened and her purse stolen. About £100 was taken and credit cards.
Police would like to speak with a woman who was in the shop at the time of the incident. She was described as between 20 and 25 years old with shoulder-length dark-coloured hair.
On the same day but slightly earlier, another woman was shopping in High Street when she realised her purse had been swiped. It contained £75 cash, driving licence and credit cards.
Ray Stannard, Maldon crime reduction officer, warned shoppers to be extra careful in the run-up to Christmas and not to carry large amounts of cash.
Police are linking the two incidents. Anyone with information should contact Maldon police station on 01621 852255.
