A nightclub reveller had his skull fractured when he was attacked after an evening out.
The 25-year-old Witham man was taken to hospital after the early morning attack in the car park of Dukes nightclub in Chelmsford.
He was transferred from Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, to Romford's Oldchurch Hospital, where his condition was today described as serious but stable.
The victim was punched and kicked at 2.30am on Saturday morning by two men who ran off towards the railway station, leaving him semi-conscious.
Investigating officer Det Con Gary Robinson said: "We are looking to speak with two particular groups of people.
"These three men - the victim and his assailants - had been ejected from Dukes moments before the attack.
"We are looking to speak to those individuals who were inside the club and saw three men having an argument.
"Secondly, any late night revellers who were returning home or walking past the nightclub to get some food and may have seen the assault."
Police have appealed for anyone who can help to contact them at Chelmsford police station on 01245 491212.
