THE wife of a seriously-ill man who died after being taken off life support was "in denial" about her husband's condition, it has been claimed.
Widow Edna Symons has accused consultant anaesthetist Ann David, 45, of Station Crescent, Rayleigh, of intentionally killing her 60-year-old husband, Robert, in Basildon Hospital six years ago.
But Dr Ken Darzy, a registrar at Basildon Hospital, said Dr David assured him the family had been told about the decision to withdraw treatment.
Dr Darzy said: "He was heavily sedated and on a machine. At the time, Mrs Symons wasn't aware of what was going on.
"She didn't know why he had a catheter.
"That gave me the impression she was either in denial of the problems, or she didn't know what was going on."
Mrs Symons has denied claims she agreed with Dr David her husband should be taken off a life support machine.
