CANVEY skipper Jeff Minton expressed his delight at his side finally getting their just deserts on opposition territory after Saturday's 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers.

In three of their four away Conference defeats Gulls have gone down by the odd goal and have left with nothing but praise from their hosts on what a good side they are ringing in their ears.

But all that changed in Gloucestershire as goals from star striker Lee Boylan and Minton himself saw Jeff King's men move up to 12th place with high hopes of breaking into the top half of the table over the next fortnight.

"We've had some good away draws this term, but too often we've played well enough to get some reward and ended up with nothing," said Minton.

"But we worked hard for what we got today and, on a far from easy surface, were still able to get the ball down and play some good football."
