East Thurrock United 2, Leyton 1
DEPLETED by injury and unavailability, East Thurrrock then had to bounce back from conceding a first minute goal in Saturday's FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round clash at Rookery Hill.
They emerged victorious against their fellow Ryman Premier League club thanks to second half goals from Steve West and Danny Harris.
Albano Correia had fird Leyton into the lead inside the first minute, getting on the end of a cross from Shaun Batt and they went on to dominate much of the rest of the half, though in truth home keeper Mark Hardingham was rarely troubled, other than when he denied Correia his second goal.
After the break Rocks finally began of threaten and they built up a head of steam as the half progressed.
Their impetus finally paid dividends when Harris picked out West with a cross and the big man guided the ball home.
Though East Thurrock dominated it looked as if they would have to settle for a replay until they got a lucky break two minutes from time when visiting keeper David Morgan and defender Vas Soteriou got in a muddle dealing with a long ball forward. It looked like it would be an own goal but Harris chased the ball to the line and slammed it into the back of the net.
He claimed the strike and Leyton's embarrassed duo weren't likely to be arguing as they made their way red-faced back own the A13!
