MORE than 150 jobs could be lost after plans were revealed to sell off a Safeway store in Eastwood.

The supermarket, in Western Approaches, has been put up for sale by its owner Morrisons, which took over the Safeway brand in 2003.

Company bosses hope another supermarket chain will step in and keep the outlet open, but the company said there had been no interest in the site so far.

The announcement came just a day after the Echo revealed plans to build a Lidl food store on the Essex Ford site at Kent Elms Corner, Eastwood - just a mile away from Safeway.
