MORE than 250 jobs are to be axed after a company announced plans to shed 60 per cent of its workforce.
Staff were today in shock following news York International is phasing out production of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems at its base in Gardiners Lane South, Basildon.
Production will be cut over the next 12 months with a complete closure by the end of 2006.
The announcement came just weeks after staff were told the multinational was to be bought out by Johnson Controls in a £1.4billion deal.
