A talking camera aimed at fighting graffiti and vandalism has made its Essex debut.
The new £30,000 technology is the first of four One Railway is installing across its region to combat damage to its trains and platforms.
Mr Barnes said: "They operate between dusk and dawn and take no notice of rail staff and the movement of trains, but they will notice unauthorised people on railway property."
A vandal or graffiti artist will know the camera, first placed at Southend's Victoria Station, has spotted them when the flash fires to take a picture - then the camera starts talking.
"Stop, if you are spraying graffiti or doing other damage the photograph will be used to prosecute you", it will state before urging the subject to "leave the area now".
