VETERAN cyclist Rudy Weeber and Marie Curie fundraiser Kate Williams lined up outside a cycle centre to launch an appeal for riders to take part in the Great 500 Cycle Challenge.
Rudy, 67, and Kate were outside Thurrock Cycle Centre, in Southend Road, Grays, to goad potential pedallers into joining the challenge which will see 500 UK riders take on one of five cycle routes across Poland and other neighbouring countries.
A spectacular entrance into Warsaw, the birthplace of Marie Curie, will be the finale.
Participants must be over 16 with a good level of fitness.
It costs £235 to register and people are being asked to raise £1,800 sponsorship.
The first team of riders will set off on September 9, 2006, and riders will reach Warsaw on September 15. There will be five routes all finishing at Warsaw on the same day.
