Second World War planes will fly over Malta for the first time in half a century today thanks to a family from Stebbing.
The special VE commemoration event has been made a reality after Clive and Linda Denney and their son, 26-year-old Glenn, of High Street, helped raise £100,000 as part of the fundraising project, Merlins Over Malta.
Wartime planes, including a Spitfire and Hurricane, will fly over the small islands, which was the most bombed place in the world in 1942.
The family set off three days ago from their base at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford Cambridgeshire, to Malta.
They have flown over France and Italy and will fly into Valletta's Grand Harbour at 6pm to mark the historic event.
Mrs Denney said: "So far, everything has gone to plan. It has been a lot of hard work but it will be worth it when we take the flight over Malta."
