A woman was sexually assaulted while on her way home from a night out.
Police were today hunting a motorist who offered to give the woman a lift in Lexden, Colchester. The victim, from Halstead and in her 40s, got in the car and was sexually attacked.
The distressed woman was dropped off a short distance away and the driver fled the scene. She was unhurt.
Investigating officer Det Sgt Mark Merry, of Colchester CID, said: "This was a nasty and frightening attack on a woman walking home after an evening out in Colchester town with members of her family.
"We are anxious to trace the driver as soon as possible."
The woman had been walking alone along Halstead Road toward Eight Ash Green at about 12.40am on Saturday.
