The race, which raises thousands of pounds for charity, can only take place at very low tide and this year it happens to land in the same year as the previous event.

Frolicking in the Maldon mud in January raised thousands for charity and it is hoped the next event, on Boxing Day, will be just as successful.

The notorious race - screened across the world including Japan, Australia and America - raised a massive £21,000 in January.

The money has been distributed to various charities over the last few months.

But the last round of cheque presentations will be made on Monday, at the Blue Boar Hotel off Maldon High Street.

The president of the Lions Club, Alex Daniel, and president of the Rotary Club, Alan Smith - both groups co-ordinate the mucky event - will present the final cheques.

New Farleigh Hospice will receive £1,000, St John Ambulance £1,000 and Essex Air Ambulance £1,000.

These three main beneficiaries have in total received £5,500 from the January fun run.

Entry forms are being delivered this week to The Maldon Tourist Information Office, Douglas Ball Fishmonger, Tavern Garage on The Causeway and the Maldon and Burnham Standard office. Also available on e-mail at LionMikeatMaldon@aol.com
