Canvey Island boss Jeff King refused to launch an inquest into the own goal which cost his side victory during last night's 1-1 draw at Woking.

Gulls seemed to be holding all the aces on their visit to the Cards when striker Kezie Ibe fired them into 41st minute lead, but visiting defender Ben Chenery proved the joker in the pack when he headed past his own keeper, Richard McKinney, to level the scores just before the break.

That proved the end of the scoring in a 1-1 draw but King wouldn't let it spoil his delight at the way his side had grabbed a point with another battling display.

"These things happen in football," he said. "From where I was standing it looked as though the ball was going out of play when Ben Chenery headed it past Richard and into his own net.

"But these things are all about communication. You can't legislate for every mistake in a game, but what interests me more is the way we knuckled down from that setback.

"We picked our game up again after the interval and, to be honest, thought we looked the more likely to take the three points in the closing stages."
