A woman had a lucky escape when her car crashed through a large wooden fence - twice.

The accident happened on the Chelmsford-bound A130 between West Hanningfield and Howe Green.

An ambulance, a rapid-response vehicle and a paramedic manager were sent to the scene after a number of calls to the Essex Ambulance Service emergency operations centre at 5.09pm yesterday.

Operations manager, Roland Chesney said: "Initially, there was a collision between two cars. The force of the crash led to the car in front leaving the road to the nearside.

"It went over a drainage ditch before crashing through a substantial wooden fence about 20 to 30 yards from the road.

"The car then continued on into a field before turning back towards the road - hitting the fence for a second time. Somehow it had remained on its wheels throughout."

The 36-year-old, of Little Maplestead, suffered whiplash. As a precaution, she was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for a check-up.
