THOUSANDS of tonnes of rubbish from towns across south Essex are set to be dumped on Pitsea after councillors backed plans for a new waste treatment plant.
Up to 160 lorries a day will be used to carry waste from Southend, Rochford and Castle Point to the new centre at Courtauld Road.
Essex County Council's Tory cabinet has agreed to a 30-year lease for the centre, just south of the A127, that will handle and recycle rubbish.
Councillors opposing the plan now have three days to call the decision in for a review.
