A hall of fame is being launched by Braintree College charting the success of famous ex-students.

It has investigated how many famous people came from Braintree and also attended the Church Lane college.

Jacquie Watts, headteacher, said: "Many colleges celebrate the success of their alumni. Indeed, you can pick up The Guardian and find regular articles detailing which famous person has gone to what further education college.

"It dawned on us at Braintree College that we are a small college but with a large number of really successful and famous ex-students, more than many larger colleges.

"We thought that this was something we needed to celebrate and shout about."

Famous Braintree College students include Keith Flint, from the band the Prodigy, Grayson Perry, transvestite potter and Turner Prize winner, Jeremy Spake, author and broadcaster, who is now in the process of setting up an airline, and Giles Long, triple Paralympics gold medal winning swimmer and world record holder and recent recipient of an Association of Colleges Gold Award.

The college is hoping to hear from other successful former students so that it can add their names to its ever-expanding Hall of Fame.

Anyone with details of someone worthy of joining the college's Hall of Fame should contact Alison Manning at the college on 01376 321711.
