Colchester boys Joe Skornia and Oscar Hackett are the new Essex Under-13s Restricted Championships doubles champions after their success at Canvey Island.

The Colchester Royal Grammar School duo were in fine form to beat a very strong field containing all of the best young badminton players in the county.

After successfully defeating three doubles pairs at the group stage, the Colchester pair were given a bye into the semi-final where they met fellow Essex squad players Christian Sweeting and Roshan Rajoria.

This was to prove Skornia and Hackett's sternest test as Sweeting and Rajoria built up an early lead.

However, the Colchester duo displayed great skill and determination to finally overcome their opponents 15-14.

In the final, Skornia and Hackett met Hookway and Olley, a specialist doubles pairing from Southend.

Yet again Hackett's great net play and Skornia's athleticism proved too much for the Southend pair as Hackett and Skornia took the title, winning 15-9.
