SOUTHEND Council is to clean up its act by extending a crackdown on abandoned rubbish across the borough.
Rubbish Watch is being rolled out across the town after a pilot scheme in Milton ward, Westcliff, proved to be a success earlier this year.
From this week two enforcement officers will be patrolling the town looking for residents who continually mess up the streets by putting out rubbish early.
Persistent offenders will be hit with a fixed penalty of £50 and, in extreme cases, can even be taken to court where a fine of up to £20,000 could be imposed.
