It's the final nail in the coffin for a former doctor's surgery.

An application has been lodged to turn 29 The Street, Little Clacton, into a house.

The building housed the village doctor's practice until it closed 18 months ago due to its poor state of repair.

The closure has forced villagers to travel five miles away to Great Bentley for the nearest surgery.

Maureen Carter, chairman of Little Clacton community care, which provides voluntary transport to the Great Bentley practice, said residents are expecting the change of use to get the go-ahead from Tendring Council.

"We have been told the building is unsuitable for a modern doctor's surgery," she said.

"We hoped for a larger facility because the village is growing but nothing has happened."
