A double error made by Maldon District Council has caused a resident to lose faith in his local authority.

Mistakes made by the district council have left Stanley Goulding, of Church Street, Maldon, more and more perturbed.

The most recent error prompted him to contact the local ombudsman.

The first mistake happened in April when an application to build a bungalow behind his house was approved.

Mr Goulding objected to the proposal because he felt it would lower the value of his property. Maldon Town Council also objected to the plan.

He attended the planning committee meeting, which gave it the thumbs-up but a little later he was sent a letter saying it had been turned down.

The council admitted the letter was sent in error, which Mr Goulding said caused him a great deal of distress.

Following the council's decision to pass the application, Mr Goulding recently applied to have one of the planning conditions altered so the bungalow would be built at a lower level.

The council put notices up in Church Street and also the Hythe Quay to inform residents of his application.

But the notices referred to the wrong planning condition, which has infuriated Mr Goulding.

A spokesman for the council's planning department said there was a typing error on the notices in Church Street and the Hythe Quay. She added that they were being changed and the council was sorry for any inconvenience caused.
