A woman was fighting for her life after plunging 30ft from the top of an escalator at Stansted Airport.
Police were called to the scene after receiving reports that a woman was becoming agitated in the lounge area.
By the time they arrived, the woman had apparently run up a set of escalators in the arrivals and departures lounge and jumped over the handrail at the top.
She fell 30ft, sustaining life-threatening injuries, and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.
Police are now trying to establish who the woman is and why she was at the airport. A police spokesman said: "Officers are satisfied however that there were no suspicious circumstances involved in the incident."
Anyone with any information is asked to call police at Stansted Airport on 01279 680298
