Everyone has to love it when a plan comes together, even if the way it is formulated at times leaves you half asleep.
There is no need to beat around the bush, Colchester United were not the greatest at Port Vale.
It was not a magical game, but who really cares when there is three points in the bag?
Last Saturday against Doncaster there were thrills and spills. At Port Vale it was a classic smash-and-grab effort that, while not a footballing spectacle, was a tactical piece of work to be admired.
And with Port Vale unbeaten at home it was a superb three points and scalp to claim. But there was very little that was pretty about the way Colchester played.
