It proved to be another successful year for a charity rowing event which took place near Heybridge Basin.

About £7,000 was raised for three worthy causes when 30 boats and their sailors raced around Northley Island in fancy dress on Saturday for Row4aReason.

The event, which was the sixth to have taken place to date, saw the competitors race around the five-mile course in their boats to raise cash for the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Centre Appeal, Little Haven Children's Hospice and The British Heart Foundation.

Organiser Robin Franklin said: "It was a fantastic day and the weather was quite good so everybody had an easy row.

"The first boats came back within about 35 minutes, which is good because last year it was blowing a gale."

The money will be presented to the charities later in the year.
