A CUT in interest rates has sparked a boost in the property market across Southend, according to one of the town's leading estate agents.
Craig Wakeling, director of Dedman in Southchurch Road, said there had been a tremendous amount of interest in homes - bucking the trend across the country.
He added: "In Church Road at Shoebury, we have seven homes on the market. Four have now been sold and there are offers on another two.
"Across the town, there has been a change ever since the cut in interest rates and people are now feeling more confident about buying property.
"Property prices did fall slightly earlier in the year but less than in other areas, and now they have levelled out."
Mr Wakeling said it seemed there was a feeling that interest rates would fall rather than rise and it was clear Southend was a desirable place to live in.
