A WOMAN was left stunned and dismayed after reading in the Echo how her home of 54 years is to be bulldozed and replaced with a plush new Southend seafront development.

Florence Tall owns a house in Southchurch Avenue, Southend, that stands in the way of the Marine Plaza scheme proposed by businessman John Remblance.

She only learned of the scheme after reading an Echo story revealing plans to demolish her house, another property and the neighbouring Dizzyland site and Happidrome, opposite the Kursaal.

The buildings would be replaced with a multi million pound hotel and leisure complex, which it is hoped will become a satellite resort for the 2012 Olympics.

Mrs Tall said: "I can't believe I had to find about about this before in the paper. I was totally stunned and feel really let down. I would have thought I would have got some warning."

A spokesman for Dedman property services, which represents Mr Remblance, refused to comment.
