FIREFIGHTERS rescued a man from a lift which fell seven storeys before jamming on the fourth floor.
White watch from Orsett fire station, along with a rescue tender from Grays arrived at George Tilbury House in Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary just after 10.30pm on Wednesday, along with paramedics from Essex Ambulance Service.
An 18-year-old man was trapped in a lift on the fourth floor, saying he had been in the lift when it suddenly dropped from the eleventh floor.
Firefighters isolated the power before moving the lift to the nearest available floor. Once the doors were finally opened paramedics treated him for neck pain and a shoulder injury.
An ambulance spokesman said: "As a precaution, he was immobilised with a neck collar and back board and given oxygen before being taken to Basildon Hospital. It goes without saying that it is very lucky the lift came to a halt when it did, otherwise the situation could have been much grimmer."
It is believed lift engineers carried out examination of the machinery on Thursday, but it is not yet known what caused the malfunction.
