FAMILIES will soon be able to spend the night with their sick children after Basildon Hospital opens its new £400,000 Ronald McDonald House.
The three bedroom house, next to the hospital's paediatric unit, has been built using a £250,000 donation from Ronald McDonald Children's Charities and £50,000 from Gen Isikgun, the local franchisee of the four Basildon McDonalds restaurants.
Extra funds were gathered through local people and businesses, while furnishings were provided by Ikea.
Children services manager Sheilagh Farebrother said she is delighted with the new facilities and is confident many parents will appreciate the opportunity it provides.
