Some rail commuters have had their daily journey to work turned into an art form.

Commuters at Benfleet station became part of a huge mural created on a day-by-day basis as part of Castle Point's arts week.

Every morning during the rush hour artists from the Basildon-based Artists Cultural Exchange - Ace - included the regulars in their work.

Team leader Simon Curl said everyone from the newspaper seller to the cafe staff were in the collage.

He said: "We've just painted characters going about their daily business.

"Anyone to do with commuting - someone reading a paper, sipping a cup of tea, sitting down or standing up.

"We've had a great response from people - asking what we're doing, where the picture will end up.

"The 8ft by 8ft picture will hopefully be on permanent display at the station for commuters to see."

Three artists worked on the picture from 7.30am to 9.30am, adding a little more each day.

Ace has around 15 artists involved in music, performing and painting who have been involved in community projects all over the world.
