Swifts were unlucky to be knocked out of this season's Axa FA Cup by Conference side Farnborough on Saturday.

With Steve Ball having moved to take up a coaching role at Stanway and Tony English injured, Swifts manager Robbie Nihill recalled Liam Cutbush and Wayne Adcock from injury and Colin Wall returned from suspension.

Heybridge started well and in the fourth minute Wall brought the ball out of defence and worked his way into the Farnborough box. He lost control as the ball ran away from him but Nigel Hewes shot was blocked.

In the 14th minute, Farnborough broke forward in numbers and as players split wide Robson was given the room to race onto a ball through the middle but he fired just wide.

Swifts won a corner in the 19th minute and following it the referee awarded Heybridge an indirect free kick inside the box for obstruction. Adcock rolled the ball to Daniel Barber but his shot was blocked.

Adcock retrieved the ball and his effort was blocked as well. In the 28th minute the home side should have gone in front. Rowlands couldn't control a bouncing ball in the Heybridge box but eventually he got his foot to it to hook it across goal but keeper Kingsley Banks stranded Wingfield headed wide.

As the match progressed Heybridge started to get on top with their commitment and effort getting the better of a lacklustre Farn-borough side.

Seven minutes before the break Dave Streetley did well to win the ball back in midfield and he found Hewes on the edge of the box he set up Adcock who fired hard and low and keeper Mackenzie had to get down quickly to smoother.

Having played so well in a closely fought first half Swifts fell behind in unfortunate circumstances in injury time.

As Cutbush went to make a tackle on the edge of the box he slipped over as he put a hand out to steady himself he accidentally stopped the ball on its path into the box.

The referee awarded a penalty and Farn-borough's Bailey's strike hit bar and post before crossing the line.

The second half saw Heybridge take the game to their opponents attacking with relative ease down the right wing but the final ball lacked penetration and clear cut chances were very few.

In the 55th minute Barber sent a long free kick into the box Christian McLean headed on and Hewes got a touch to it but not enough to beat the keeper.

The two then combined again as McLean skipped over a tackle on the right wing and his cross was headed down by Hewes and Alex Fiddes drove wide.

In the 66th minute Heybridge won a free-kick on the left edge of the box. Wall's strike was hard and low and the ball nearly slipped under Mackenzie but the keeper did just enough.

Heybridge continued to have the greater of the play but they lacked the final quality ball to open up the Farnborough defence.

In the final 10 minutes Heybridge lost both central defenders through injury and Farnborough finally made sure of victory when Wingfield drove through a weak Heybridge wall to score direct from a free kick.

At the end of the game Farnborough knew they had been lucky and were relieved to be in the hat for the next round.

Swifts manager Robbie Nihill was proud of his players. They are all showing tremendous commitment and with a bit of luck, the results will begin to come.
